Will it fit the spot, and will it fit the cat?
Updated
Measure the spot before you pick. Globe boxes are tall: the picks here run from 6.2 to 31 inches high. Some also need space around them or a hard floor. Then think about the cat, because a box can fit your closet and still be tight for a big cat.

Placement rules on the listings
- Litter-Robot 4: the listing says never push it against a wall or into a corner. It must not touch any walls.
- PuraMax 2: do not set it on carpet or mats, which can interfere with the sensors. Use a flat floor and keep the entrance clear.
- Neakasa M1 Plus: the listing says it needs about 3.4 sq ft of floor.
- ScoopFree Clumping: PetSafe's answer on its product page gives 721 x 524 x 253 mm overall, about 28.4 x 20.6 x 10 in, with a 15 x 14 in litter area. Amazon lists the same three numbers in a different order.
Low spaces
If the box has to go under a shelf or counter, only the two PetSafe picks here are short: the ScoopFree Crystal Pro at 6.2 in and the ScoopFree Clumping at about 10 in. Every globe here is over 21 inches. Leave room above for the cat, and to lift out a tray or drawer.
Fit for the cat
The 2021 AAHA and AAFP feline guidelines suggest a litter box at least one and a half times the cat's length from nose to tail tip, and say most manufactured boxes are not large enough. They also say edges should be low enough for kittens and seniors. Whisker gives the Litter-Robot 4 a 15.75 by 15.75 inch entry and a globe 19 inches wide by 18 deep. Owners of several globe picks say big breeds find them tight. For a long cat, an open top like the Neakasa may suit better. For an older cat, the PuraMax 2 has a 7.87 inch step in.
